Hospitality and Tourism Human Resource and Industry Development

The USAID Building Economic Sustainability through Tourism Project (USAID/BEST) is seeking a new team member who will be responsible for building the capacity of human resources across all major sectors of the tourism industry to ensure excellent standards of service and improve the quality of enterprises for a distinguished experience.

 

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The person appointed will work with public and private sector stakeholders to support the development of education and capacity-building initiatives and to raise awareness of the importance of professional standards at all levels of the industry. Responsibilities will also include designing, planning, implementing, and coordinating assigned programs, projects, and initiatives for the successful implementation of the job creation, decision support and destination excellence initiatives. The person appointed will work with the USAID BEST team to:

- Develop, expand and manage an industry-based learning and training scheme to improve quality of human capital at major resorts and hotels;
- Design, launch and pilot a capacity building program for supervisors in resorts, hotels and restaurants;
- Develop programs and build capacity to improve research and knowledge management in the tourism sectors;
- Manage the design, implementation and execution of tourism awareness campaigns in selected regions;
- Develop and implement industry-based programs for university professors and university graduates;
- Develop and manage industrywide capacity building training courses.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Essential:

- Degree in either Tourism or Hospitality Management, Human Resource Management, or equivalent;
- Professional experience, preferably with international hotel or tourism companies;
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written in English and Arabic;
- Skilled in report writing and presenting quantitative and qualitative data;
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with public and private sector stakeholders.

 

Desirable:

- Experience in human resource management preferably in hotel or tourism business is desirable;
- Technical knowledge of training and training systems in tourism and or hospitality business;
- Ability to work independently with limited oversight and under considerable time constraints;
- Ability to effectively use computer software MS Office applications and MS Project;
