Building Economic Sustainability through Tourism Project

Back to Tourism

Yarmouk University and USAID BEST have partnered to boost the teaching skills and capacities of tourism and hotel management professors at the university through a ‘Back to Tourism’ program. This hands-on initiative began this month and will see four professors spend six months in the industry learning about the latest practices in hotel management and ultimately reflecting this in their teaching programs to better prepare students for entry into the hospitality job market.

The professors are training at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Amman to learn about current industry methods of food production, food and beverage service, human resources, accounting, sales and marketing and other relevant areas. The professors are Dr. Ahmad Al Makhadmeh, Mr. Furat Al Muhaisen, Dr. Hakam Shatnawi and Dr. Omar Ananzeh. Each one brings with him a unique academic background with a range of teaching experience and varying areas of interest within the industry.

Upon completing this training, they will improve course curriculum in the tourism and hospitality department at Yarmouk University in order to funnel up-to-date knowledge and skills to their students who will soon be entering the tourism, hotel and hospitality industries.

Stay tuned for updates on the professors on how they are proceeding in their training.
