Building Economic Sustainability through Tourism Project

Bringing tourism awareness to As-Salt

Bringing tourism awareness to As-Salt

As-Salt has gained a lot of attention since it was named Jordan’s first Distinctive Destination in December 2016. It’s rich heritage and culture gives it major tourism potential that many people have yet to fully experience. USAID BEST, in collaboration with the As-Salt Municipality, the Salt Development Corporation (SDC) and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MoTA), and the Ministry of Environment  (MoE) are implementing a series of events as part of an awareness campaign that will help improve the image of tourism amongst the locals in As-Salt by drawing attention to the cities’ potential to generate economic opportunities through the tourism sector, encouraging students to pursue tourism and hospitality career paths, and engaging youth and the overall community in protecting the culture, heritage and environment of their city. Over the next few months, several activities will be implemented including tourism trainings for school staff, dialogues with university students on the impact of tourism and the potential to work in the tourism and hospitality sector, a high school painting competition, and events to encourage locals to be environmentally-friendly.
