Certified master trainers to improve skills at 10 hotels in Jordan

Ten human resource professionals representing five-star hotels in Jordan have become certified master trainers under the Pathways to Professionalism Scheme (PTP). As master trainers, they are now equipped with the knowledge and responsibility to make sure the scheme runs smoothly at their designated hotel. Along with being able to train in each department, they can support departmental trainers, administer and oversee assessments and be a point of reference for learners and the administration team. 

Juliet Billeh, Human Resource Manager at the Amman Marriott Hotel, is one of the newly certified Pathways master trainers. “The most important part of being a master trainer,” explained Ms. Billeh, “is making sure to communicate with the departmental trainers in an effective manner. When we coordinate well with them they can lead the learners down a successful path.”

The Pathways to Professionalism scheme is a labor market initiative that responds to the challenges faced by Jordan’s hospitality industry in employing skilled workers. The scheme empowers participating hotels to recruit, select, and train employees on-the-job in food production, food and beverage services, and housekeeping.

“With knowledgeable employees, more tourists will be drawn to Jordan causing profits to rise in the hospitality industry,” said Mrs. Billeh.

Pathways to Professionalism was designed in cooperation between USAID BEST, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Vocational Training Corporation. USAID BEST developed education materials and provided training for coordinators, trainers and examiners. To date, 21 hotels have adopted the scheme.
