Building Economic Sustainability through Tourism Project

Luminus College graduates get interested in their own start-ups

USAID BEST is working to increase the number of tourism ventures available in Jordan as well as support the growth and sustainability of existing tourism start-ups. These efforts hope to foster the development of new products and services that would bring new ideas and experiences to the marketplace, creating more jobs in the industry and drawing more tourists to the kingdom.

This week, USAID BEST partnered with Luminus Technical University College, the Ministy of Tourism and Antiquities, Jordan Investment Commission, Micro-Fund for Women, and the Development & Employment Fund to offer the first informative session on tourism startup opportunities available. Over thirty recent and upcoming and graduates from the hospitality, culinary arts and hotel management tracks at Luminus participated in the information session.

The speakers inspired some graduates to want to establish their own startups and the others discovered the support currently available for their existing tourism ventures. Graduates learned of the needs for services in the industry and how they could take part.  A representative from JIC who spoke on entrepreneurship and the available tourism incentives, particularly in the governorates outside of Amman.

USAID BEST will continue to partner with hospitality and tourism universities around Jordan to encourage upcoming and recent graduates to create tourism ventures that interest them as well as give them the tools to do so.
