Building Economic Sustainability through Tourism Project

Standing out in As-Salt

As part of the support extended to Al Gherbal Restaurant in downtown As-Salt, USAID BEST participated in an initiative to transform the staircase leading up to the restaurant into an iconic feature within the city center. The event was attended by the President of the Jordanian Senate and former Prime Minister Faisal Al Fayez, alongside participants from As-Salt Municipality, Salt Development Corporation, a group of youth volunteers and artists from the city, and the restaurant staff. Participants worked together to paint the space and add greenery and help transform it into an interactive space. The event also included face painting for children.

Over the past 16 months, USAID BEST has supported the owners to set up the restaurant and create a unique menu that reflects the local culture, as well as developing a brand, marketing the restaurant, and training its employees.

As-Salt was chosen as Jordan’s first Distinctive Destination, a program implemented by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and supported by USAID BEST to transform cities with tourism potential into attractive destinations. Coordinated with the local municipality and community, efforts have been ongoing to develop compelling tourism experiences in As-Salt to attract visitors and enhance the local economy.
