Building Economic Sustainability through Tourism Project

Yawm Al Reef

Eager groups of friends and families headed to Yawm Al Reef at Al Sindian Village in Zai, As-Salt on Friday May 3rd to spend a day in the Jordanian countryside, listening to live music, enjoying traditional dishes such as knafeh and mshakhan, and filling their bags with goods, local produce and crafts.

Hosted by the Basheer family, 52 vendors took part in the market, selling fresh produce, cooked meals, labaneh, makdoos, jams, accessories, ceramics, traditional artworks and much more. Activities at the event included pottery painting, henna art, artwork painting and a small petting zoo with birds and rabbits. Visitors streamed in throughout the day, with 800 visitors perusing the various vendors and enjoying the cool As-Salt weather.

The event was organized by the Salt Development Corporation (SDC) and USAID BEST to support vendors from As-Salt and Amman to showcase their products to a larger audience. The event was part of wider efforts by SDC and USAID BEST to establish As-Salt and its rural areas as an attractive tourism destination and encourage visitation to the area.
