Presenting Jordan's Tourism Competitiveness Index 2017

27 Sep 2018

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in partnership with USAID BEST, and in coordination with Oxford Economics, are holding a symposium to present Jordan's Tourism Competitiveness Index (TCI) 2017.

The event takes place between 1pm and 3pm at the Fairmont Hotel Amman.

The TCI tracks trends in Jordan’s tourism industry using statistical data. It is an important tool for Jordan, as the tourism sector is critical to the country’s economy and competitiveness is the key driver of Jordan’s long-term tourism performance. The Jordan TCI caters specifically to the country’s tourism sector and is based on two pillars: the enabling environment and performance. These branch into sub-pillars under which are distributed 81 international and 129 Jordan indicators.  The indicators measure areas such as hotel occupancy, room supply, air transport infrastructure, tourism employees, etc. The indicators all feed into the overall index, which weighs Jordan’s competitiveness on a scale of 1 to 7.

The symposium will shed light on:

  • Jordan’s tourism performance in 2017
  • Tourism competitiveness strengths and areas for improvements
  • Key action areas for tourism stakeholders
  • Key tourism policy messages

The Jordan Tourism Competitiveness Index:

  • Places competitiveness at the heart of tourism policy analysis and decision-making in Jordan
  • Supports public and private tourism stakeholders' cooperative efforts tto improve tourism competitiveness and performance
  • Enhances research, analytical and policy capacity across Jordanian tourism institution
