Continued excellence from AAUC in hotel management education

22 Dec 2017

The Ammon Applied University College (AAUC) has once again received the Tourism Education Quality (TedQual) certificate for its bachelor's program in Hotel Management. TedQual is issued by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in recognition of programs with outstanding qualities.

USAID BEST provided financial and technical support to AAUC to enhance its program and its TedQual certification. This effort included modernizing facilities, improving educational curriculum standards, and promoting scientific research.

Ammon was first awarded the TedQual certification in 2014 for two years. This time has been renewed for three years, which reflects the overall quality and success of AAUC’s tourism programs. AAUC is the first institution in the Middle East to be awarded the TedQual certificate for a Bachelor’s program in Hotel Management and the second institution in Jordan to receive the certificate in general.

Through TedQual the UNWTO seeks to encourage educational institutions to enhance and improve their tourism-related programs. The certificate is awarded following evaluation of an institution’s program to make sure its standards meet the needs of the tourism market.  The evaluation also measures the capacity and efficiency of graduates through interviews with administrative staff, professors, current students, graduates and other representatives. Today, 72 educational institutions in more than 36 countries around the world have obtained TedQual certification. Jordan is the second country in the Arab world, after Oman, to receive the certificate.

USAID BEST is currently supporting Yarmouk University and the Hashemite University to obtain the certificate its tourism bachelor programs. This is part of USAID BEST efforts to meet the tourism sector's need for skilled workers which impact the quality of tourism services and the competitiveness of whole tourism sector in Jordan.
