26 Feb 2019

USAID BEST will once again be marking International Women’s Day this March 9th, 2019, in cooperation with Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD).  Under the international theme of “Balance for Better” an event is being planned to celebrate at the Princess Basma Center for Development (JOHUD, Aqaba), marking the achievements of women in tourism and the hospitality and a call to action for accelerating gender parity in these sectors in Jordan.

The objective is to create awareness in the tourism and hospitality sectors, specifically in Aqaba through the promotion of the Tourism and Hospitality Academy that will soon be launched at the the Princess Basma Center for Development (JOHUD, Aqaba).

With the ongoing support of USAID BEST for gender equality and female empowerment in the tourism and hospitality sectors, the project pushes further to implement strategic plans to increase the capability of women and girls and promote gender equality and female empowerment within their societies. Chosen role-models will be interviewed to share their successes at work, a theatrical play will be offered featuring awareness of and promote gender equality.  In addition, a market bazaar consisting of women vendors from Maan and Aqaba governorates will sell their handmade and homemade products.

Open to the public, the event will be an exciting day for visitors and geared towards families.
