Jordan hosts Resilience through Tourism Summit

27 Jun 2018

The Jordan Tourism Board, in collaboration with USAID BEST and Jacobs Media Group (Europe’s largest travel trade media company), hosted a Resilience through Tourism Summit in Amman on June 27, 2018. USAID BEST supported this event and has encouraged local and regional trade attendance, including tour operators, hoteliers, and entrepreneurs in the tourism industry. The summit drew in around 150 local, regional, and international delegates who discussed effective strategies that have resulted in increased resilience through tourism as a tool.

According to Dr. Mario Hardy, CEO of Pacific Asia Travel Association, who was a speaker at the event, “We live in a world of uncertainty, volatility, complexity and ambiguity. Understanding, talking and planning about resilience is a necessity. Jordan is surrounded by conflict and challenges, which makes it the perfect place for this discussion.”

"Increased e-connectivity has brought the whole world closer and more and more people are discovering the splendors of ancient Jordan combined with modern amenities and infrastructure. Jordan and India are amongst the oldest civilizations in the world and I'm happy to see more Indians travelling to Jordan. Reintroduction of direct flights will immensely boost bilateral tourism," said Mr. Ajay Parkash, President of International Institute for Peace Through Tourism and a speaker at the summit.

Mr. Amjad Tadros, TV producer and journalist who took part, said, "As tourism is one of Jordan's most important industries, we must always take these moments to evaluate and discuss where we stand. For this reason, such a conference is vitally important for the Jordanian tourism industry as we examine where we have come from and chart our future direction."
