New JETT tours link key tourism destinations around Jordan

19 Sep 2018

USAID BEST awarded the Jordan Express Tourist Transportation Company’s (JETT) a grant in 2017 to support the establishment of new tour routes that would provide locals and visitors with reliable, affordable and convenient excursions to primary and secondary tourism sites around Jordan. The routes link Amman to Madaba, Ajloun, Jerash, Dead Sea, along with a shuttle between the Dead Sea and Bethany, and an Amman city tour. The tours will help bring traffic to these destinations and ultimately boost business for local service providers, such as cafes, restaurants, guides, etc.

Four routes were officially launched in March 2018, and these have seen a gradual increase in bookings to date. The Amman City Tour route was the most popular and has transported more than 1,600 passengers since it began. The Amman to Dead Sea excursion has been used by more than 1000 passengers so far. Existing routes, such as Amman to Petra, saw a 25% increase in the number of passengers compared with the same period in 2017.

USAID BEST supported JETT to market their new and existing tourism routes through a marketing campaign, an upgrade to the JETT website and reservation system (until a new website is created) and development of sales and social media outreach plans. The campaign will also include radio advertisements and digital screens at Queen Alia International Airport to continue to increase demand. Four more routes will be launched by the beginning of October 2018 that offer links between each of Aqaba, Wadi Rum and Petra.

USAID BEST continues to work closely with public and private sector tourism stakeholders to establish Jordan as a globally competitive tourism destination. For more information about the available routes and what is included in each tour package click here.
