Tourism employment unit opens new doors for Jordanian youth

25 Nov 2018

A Tourism and Hospitality Employment Unit officially opened in Aqaba on November 24, inaugurated by HRH Princess Basma. This employment center was established by the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) in partnership with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and with support from USAID BEST.

The aim of the unit is to promote job and training opportunities in tourism and hospitality to Jordanian youth, with an emphasis on encouraging women to join the field.

A job fair was held at the opening event, which hosted 40 different hospitality and tourism enterprises in Aqaba that were promoting 525 job vacancies and 617 training opportunities.

“We have a golden opportunity in front of us,” said HRH Princess Basma regarding the employment opportunities in Aqaba and the potential that tourism holds.

“Working in a hotel includes many incentives such as social security, health insurance, life insurance and other things,” said Rua’a Hamadin, an HR employee who was representing the InterContinental Hotel in Aqaba at the fair.

Nawras Issa Khalid Haroun, one of the job seekers, said, “What happened today under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma was really nice. It saved us effort. Instead of having to go around and search, this brought everything together.”
