Tourism entrepreneurs in As-Salt compete for financing to develop their projects

12 Jan 2020

USAID BEST, the Microfund for Women and SPARK have launched a competition to finance tourism projects in As-Salt. Called Intilaqati Siyaha, the purpose of the competition is to shortlist tourism entrepreneurs in As-Salt who are seeking funding to establish new tourism ventures or develop existing ones that have been operating for less than two years. Four winners will be selected to receive loans of up to JD10,000, the second- and third-place winners will receive JD5000, and the fourth-place winner will receive JD3000. All loans will be interest-free and financed by the Microfund for Women.

The winners will receive in February on a range of topics related to starting and operating tourism businesses to increase their chances of success.

The initiative launched in December 2019 with a briefing session in As-Salt, where more than 50 interested entrepreneurs took part, 36 of whom were women. The competition is open to all types of tourism start-ups and businesses, including mobile applications, food and beverage outlets, accommodation, tourism marketing, exhibitions, festivals, local shops, and others. Applications to the competition are being evaluated and winners will be announced by the end of January.
